Hello yKANers and friends!

yKAN's 20th Anniversary Celebration & Date Auction Fundraiser

We proudly present to you yKAN's 20th Anniversary Celebration & Date Auction Fundraiser on Wednesday, August 26th, 2009 exclusively at Circle NYC. We are very excited to commemorate twenty years of service in the community with a fun night of music, dancing, social networking and most importantly fundraising for yKAN's community service projects. We will be auctioning off 10 specially hand-selected eligible Korean bachelors and bachelorettes from the NYC area, with all proceeds going towards our community service budget. Guaranteed to be an entertaining and stylish evening, we are lucky to have Comedian Helen Hong as the official MC of the event. She has been featured on TLC, E! Entertainment and recently in the New York Times. Come and participate in the auction, or simply mingle with other professionals from the surrounding tri-state area. This fundraiser is expected to draw 200 people and every guest who attends will have the chance to win one of our fabulous raffle prizes.

Zack's Dance Loft is hosting a 2.5 hour Wine Tasting and Pre-Summer Swing Dance Class. For the first hour, guests will relax, mix and mingle while enjoying wine, bread and cheese. Afterward there will be a one-hour beginner swing dance class.
Learn the differences in wines and qualities and gain an appreciation and knowledge for it. Relax, mix, and mingle with other wine lovers like yourself. At the same time learn the Swing dance and get ready for New York City indoor and outdoor Night Swing.
Wine lovers will have a chance to swirl, sniff and sip their way through 8-10 wines accompanied by and matched with delicious cheeses and bread. Every week we taste from a different region and country. After tasting all the wines, there will be a group Swing dance class. Teacher Zack, featured as "Best of NY" by New York magazine, will conduct a 60 minute Swing dance lesson for beginner dancers. These classes are designed for beginners. At these classes you will learn new moves, techniques, and complete beginner level chirographies, which will help you to develop different skills. Most important, no commitment to a fixed schedule is necessary. Each class is designed to allow you to get a taste of the dance in a beautiful studio with a fun atmosphere.
Zack's Dance Loft
First Class Service Zack's Dance Loft was featured as Best of New York by NY Magazine for many reasons. Best customer service, best facilities, best amenities, and best prices. Zack's Dance Loft is the only school where you do not have to pay for a late canceled class and the only school that allows you exchanges on private lessons. In case of late cancellation, all you need to do is reschedule the class to the current week (Monday-Sunday). Unlike other schools, private lessons are 60 minutes rather then 55 minutes, a private room with no additional costs is guarantee, and the whole studio is dedicated to one couple. Beside, what other dance school can you go to, where you're handed a drink at bar and then expertly whisked onto the dance floor. First-Class Studio Zack's Dance Loft is based on the idea that dance studios should be exceptional in comfort, style, and quality. This first-class studio is located on Park Avenue and 28th Street, a few steps from the 6 train and a few blocks from the rest.

Soon Hwa Lee Eco Fashion Show
Title: “The Future of ‘Green’ and Culture”

Introduction
In recent years, Korea has rapidly advanced in all aspects. In November 2000, President Kim, Dae-jung has announced to the citizens of Korea that the financial crisis was over. Ever since then, Korean companies, brands, and people have been making their mark on the world’s map. Soon Hwa Lee is one of Korea’s top Hanbok Designers. She has been an ambassador of Hanbok (Traditional Korean Costume) for many years and has shown her masterpieces throughout the world. Her next project is a US-Tour consisting of 4 shows that will be held in US and Korean Landmarks: Pentagon, Smithsonian, IMF/Worldbank, and Marvelous Convention in Seoul, Korea. The planning for this tour originated with Ms. Lee being invited by the Smithsonian Institution Asian Cultural History Program, to participate in the Smithsonian Korean Heritage Project event, celebrating the 2009 Washington Korea Festival. The Korean Heritage Project of the Asian Cultural History Program was founded in 1985 to “support acquisition, conservation/restoration, and exhibition of Korean collections, and to support research on Korea’s Heritage and other Korean cultural activities at the Smithsonian Institution.” The Korea Gallery, which is housed at the National Museum of Natural History, presents Korea’s millennia of history and its distinctive culture through ceramics, paintings, textiles, and sculptures, ranging from the 6th century B.C. to the 21st century. And in June 2007, the Smithsonian celebrated the Korea Gallery opening, and with that, a series of performances, lectures, and events throughout the Washington area, known as the Washington Korea Festival. The Soon Hwa Lee US-Korea Fashion Show is based on a concept created by our team, and it’s called “ECOREANISM”. This blends aspects of the environment (“Green”) and Korea. Each of the venues has significant value and meaning for the show as well as Koreans worldwide. The shows will be invitation only and our audience will include some of the most influential figures in their respective industries. The concept of this show will be used on a long term basis, in order to show the world, who/what Korea and Koreanism are.

The Show
The show will bring together elements of past, present, and the future. The collection will present the designs and philosophy of Soon Hwa Lee in a manner never seen before. Traditional, Modern, Environment, Korea, and Design will melt into one single concept. The fashion show in itself will be a show as it will incorporate aspects of music, dance, arts/sculpture and martial arts. As Korean brands have been showing the world consumers the strength and quality of Korea’s technology and business, the show is an opportunity to show world leaders the deep Korean heritage, culture, as well as its adaptations to the modern times:

  • Pentagon: will represent the US-Korea relations.
  • Smithsonian: protecting the environment, improving the ecology, and Korea’s role on the issues.
  • IMF / Worldbank: represents how Korea has evolved as a nation, and its people’s involvement in reshaping an entire nation.
  • Marvelous Convention: will close the tour and show to our partners and supporters what we have achieved.
*** Note:We are looking to find a company to handle stage, lighting, sound, visuals, furniture rentals. ***
