Theme:

“An afternoon of fun, the outdoors, and, of course, food!”

yKAN is throwing its Annual June Picnic at Central Park. One of our most popular events, members meet up to play sports, board games, relax in the sun and enjoy each other’s company. This year we will be doing something new, featuring “Joo muk bap” contest.
“Jumeokbap” translates to “fist rice” because it is molded into a shape and size resembling a fist. It can be simply balls of rice flavored with seasoning or a special filling inside, and wrapped in seaweed laver if you like. Also commonly referred to as “Onigri” in Japanese, it is similar in preparation but contains ingredients culturally specific to Korean cuisine. “Jumeokbap” is a nostalgic food, often packed for kids’ lunchboxes in playful shapes or meals on-the-go.

We encourage those entering the contest to make it a group effort with friends. Participants will be judged on two categories and awarded prizes for, best taste and best presentation. Be creative with ingredients, method of cooking, color and shape. Not only is this event an opportunity for socializing and networking, it will be a hands-on way to celebrate Korean cuisine and show off your culinary skills!

Contest Rules:
  1. Must use rice
  2. Must hold its shape and be able to be picked up and eaten in one piece (not necessarily one bite)
  3. Size must be no bigger than a billiard ball but no smaller than a dunkin’ munchkin
  4. Must bring at least 15 servings for tasting (feel free to bring more!)
There are three (3) ways to attend the event:
